January 2022 Recap
We’re going to try to stick to posting videos and blog posts more consistently this year. January was off to a pretty slow start, with heavy rains in Southern New Hampshire in most of December and first part of January, we felt like we were living in the Pacific Northwest.
Not that there’s something wrong with the Pacific Northwest - in fact, we LOVE the lushness that the rainy weather brings - the moss turns iridescent green, signaling rebirth in the forest floor.
We’re very much of the mindset that nature is beautiful in any weather and it’s better to be outside, exploring, than to be sitting at home. To ring in the New Year, we checked out a couple of local waterfalls only minutes from our home in Nashua.
If you are a moss lover, late fall and early spring are perfect times to witness the forest come alive with mosses and lichens - the wet and cool climate of those seasons sets a stage for moss to grow and thrive before going back into summer hibernation.
As the month progressed, winter started to show itself, one snowflake at a time, but by the middle of the month, it was finally starting to feel like real winter in New Hampshire.
This month was about little adventures - getting out after work for an hour or two, and cherishing the local sunsets. Scenes like this make us grateful to call New Hampshire home.
After a few weekends at home and calling off hikes, on one of the coldest weekends of January we decided to explore Flume Gorge and hike Mount Pemigewasset for sunset. The frigid hike paid off and we even got to try out the hot water in cold air trick. Natalie was wearing ski goggles to keep her face warm and also made the mistake of wearing mascara (force of habit).
